Businessman abducted at gunpoint from a shop, employees tied up, and money looted


A businessman named Shibu Banik (65) from Bauphal in Patuakhali has been abducted at gunpoint by miscreants. It has been alleged that they tied up two employees of his shop and looted more than five lakh taka from the store. The incident occurred today, Friday, around 10:15 p.m., in the Marchantpatti area of Kalaiya Bazar in the upazila.

According to local businessmen and shop employees, Shibu Banik is a prominent merchant in the bazar. He is a wholesale trader dealing in rice, lentils, flour, and various other products. On Friday night, as he was finalizing the day’s accounts and preparing to close the shop, a group of 8 to 10 masked individuals stormed in, holding him and two employees, Shankar (34) and Tapas (35), hostage at gunpoint. The attackers tied them up and looted more than five lakh taka from the cash register. Eventually, they tied up Shibu Banik, forced him onto a trawler, and abducted him.

As news of the abduction spread, over five hundred businessmen in the bazar were gripped with fear. They gathered and demanded the swift rescue of Shibu Banik.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bauphal Police Station, Md. Kamal Hossain, stated that after receiving the report, police had gone to the scene, and efforts are underway to rescue Shibu Banik.
