Images claiming Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, Gauri Khan, converted to Islam and visited Mecca with her family are generated using AI

Recently, several photos went viral on Facebook, asserting that Gauri Khan embraced Islam and traveled with her family to Mecca. In these images, Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, and their son Aryan Khan appear dressed in traditional pilgrimage attire. However, an investigation reveals that these widely circulated photos were artificially created using AI (Artificial Intelligence). Additionally, the claim regarding Gauri Khan’s conversion to Islam is entirely baseless.

A further search found one of these AI-generated photos on an Instagram account named "WTV News Media" (wtv_news_media). The image, posted on January 2, 2024, includes Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, and Aryan Khan. The caption explicitly states that the image was created using AI.

Moreover, a review of the social media accounts of Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, and Aryan Khan provided no evidence or posts supporting any visit to Mecca or any conversion to Islam by Gauri Khan.

Misleading Media Reports

The viral photos prompted several local media outlets, citing Indian sources, to publish misleading reports. Notably, RTV and Channel i presented these claims. The titles and photo captions of their articles featured sensational statements like "Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri converts religion after 33 years of marriage!" (RTV) and "Gauri changes religion after 33 years of marriage!" (Channel i, Facebook post).

In an RTV Facebook post, the caption read, "After 33 years of marriage, Shah Rukh’s wife changes religion..." Although both media outlets acknowledged in their detailed reports that the images were AI-generated and the conversion claim was false, their misleading headlines and captions contributed to user confusion on Facebook, according to FactWatch.

Based on the available evidence, it is clear that the photos circulated online claiming Gauri Khan converted to Islam and visited Mecca with her family are not authentic but AI-generated.
