A Hindu teacher in Chattogram was forced to resign after students were incited

A Hindu headmaster in Chattogram was coerced into resigning, reportedly due to a conflict involving the school management committee, allegedly orchestrated by a known group of local individuals. Following his resignation, the teacher reportedly fell ill.

This incident took place on Wednesday, January 8, at Purba Boroia Thanda Mia Chowdhury High School in Anwara Upazila of Chattogram. The headmaster in question is named Chandan Mahajan.

It has been reported that a certain identified group of local corrupt individuals instigated false accusations against headmaster Chandan Mahajan, rousing not only students but also some parents. Among those involved are people seeking control over the school’s management committee. They accused Mahajan of making anti-Islamic remarks and alleged that he mocked beards, and criticized hijabs and niqabs. Additionally, accusations of misconduct and corruption were also raised against him.

Sources reveal that on January 8, headmaster Chandan Mahajan was summoned to the office of the secondary education officer for investigation. However, a group of students was unexpectedly brought there, demanding his resignation without waiting for any inquiry.

Subsequently, the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), Tahmina Akter, received Chandan Mahajan’s resignation letter.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a teacher from the school said, “Most of the allegations were fabricated to entrap headmaster Chandan Mahajan by spreading religious animosity. Young children are being incited to protest, many of whom are unaware of the exact nature of the teacher’s supposed offenses.”

A local guardian claimed, “The core issue behind this harassment is actually the dispute over the management committee. The other allegations are simply manufactured.”

Attempts to reach headmaster Chandan Mahajan for comments via phone were unsuccessful as his phone was found switched off.
